Neal Rubin was a guest on Emily T Gail Talks Golf & Other Sports in Sept. Neal is a columnist for the The Detroit News , currently writes the nationally syndicated comic strip Gil Thorp. He was three time Nevada Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Assn. Had a conversation with Neal on a recent visit to Detroit. Detroit is my home town ... my heart is still there. We talked about the impact sports has on the morale of the city ... subjects I found interesting to hear Neal comment after his 20 years of being in Detroit.
-------------- A recent guest and friend was Anne Doyle who first made her mark nationally in 1979 when she was one of the first TV women sports broadcasters in the U.S. to gain access to professional locker rooms. As a sports anchor and reporter for CBS-TV in Detroit from 1978 to 1984, Anne was tested by Reggie Jackson, Bobby Knight, Bo Schembechler, Isiah Thomas and Kirk Gibson.. In 1987, Anne joined Ford Motor Company where she rose through the public affairs and governmental affairs ranks to become director of North America Communications. Anne has been on the front lines of American Women who helped redefine the world of work. Anne is now a communications, media and leadership coach, consultant and speaker and currently working on a book. Her 15 years of excellence in news and sports journalism earned her credibility with both athletes and peers, two Michigan Emmy nominations, a listing in “Who’s Who of American Women” and entry into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame. Anne and I talked about a number of subjects including equal sports opportunity in education for girls and how the 1972 Education Act has played a part in women’s sports today. Anne has been called insightful as a sage. Hard hitting as a journalist. Inspiring as a coach. She has successfully navigated across several industries to come into her own in the new generation of leadership development. I had not seen Anne for many years and was pleased to renew our friendship. More about Anne at www.AnneDoyleStrategies.com . July 12 & 19 podcast at www.ESPNhawaii.com go to on air page.
